“We are such a small quirky congregation and I love it that way,” says Hannah Gardner, one of the Young Ambassadors participating in the Ohio Conference’s Young Ambassador German Exchange Program this July. Hannah is one of 13 youth planning to travel to Paderborn from Ohio. Her church, Congregational UCC, Canton, hosted a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser last weekend where they raised $686.00 toward their first trip to Germany. This brings the fundraising up to $13,000 already raised toward the group’s $35,000 goal.
Gardner shared her appreciation with her congregation for the fundraiser the next morning during worship. Her pastor asked her what was the greatest reason that she wanted to be a Young Ambassador. She smiled and said, “I love to make connections. I think that by making the connection with our German partners, I will learn more about myself through the eyes of another culture.” She ended by saying, “I hope to make friendships that last a lifetime.”
All of the Young Ambassadors will gather for a planning retreat in March. They are excited about traveling to Germany and learning about how racism impacts the German culture. They will also include a spiritual and missional component to the trip.
All of the Young Ambassadors are sharing the work of raising funds so that they can participate in this life-changing program. The cost came in $300 per person more than expected because it is in the height of tourist season. So it would be great if you would help the group financially by joining us for a German style meal following a concert at Trinity UCC, Wadsworth, on April 17, 2016. The concert will begin at 4:00 pm and the meal will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
Even if you can’t make it in person, you can give directly to the Young Ambassadors through our Ohio Conference online donation page or by sending a check to the Ohio Conference Office, 6161 Busch Blvd. Ste. 100, Columbus, OH 43229. Please put YAO – Young Ambassadors Ohio in the memo line of your check.
