Please support Outdoor Ministries and Templed Hills. There are currently two opportunities for you to donate.
Question: Is the “Hills are Alive” capital campaign still going on? And what is the difference between that and the “Camp 2.0” campaign?
The Hills are Alive capital campaign for Templed Hills is still going. And we also have a campaign called “Camp 2.0”. The Hills are Alive campaign is a capital campaign for long range capital improvements to Templed Hills Camp and Conference Center and camp scholarships. Click here for more information on Hills are Alive.
Camp 2.0 campaign is to support the expenses of the virtual/alternative summer camp program we are providing this summer as well as to cover the day to day site expenses for Templed Hills Camp and Conference Center during this Covid-19 pandemic when we don’t have income coming into the site as we usually do. Please prayerfully consider your gifts to both campaigns as you are able. Please click here for Camp 2.0 campaigns.
You may also send a donation for either campaign to the conference office in Columbus, Heartland Conference, 6161 Busch Blvd Suite 100, Columbus, OH 43229. Please include a note as to which campaign you wish to donate.
Dear Campers, Families, Volunteers and staff members,
We hope this letter finds you safe and well in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
As you may know the Heartland Conference Outdoor Ministry team and Conference Board of Directors have been monitoring the current COVID 19 situation closely, exploring possible solutions, and praying for discernment on how to best provide you with Summer Camp 2020. At this time, we would like to share with you the decision to not hold on-site summer resident camp at Templed Hills, but instead offer Virtual Summer Camp 2020 2.0 (online and by mail).
We know that summer camp is especially important to you. One of the most important things we do at camp is bring people closer together with each other in the journey of Christian faith. Another equally important aspect to us is the health and safety of all our participants, volunteers and staff. Due to the current requirements for health and safety due to the Covid-19 virus, we must remain physically distant.
Summer Camp 2020 2.0 will not look like any camp season in the past, but our goal remains the same – to bring people together to grow in faith. We know that it is disappointing news that we cannot be all together at Templed Hills Camp and Conference Center. We share your disappointment. We will schedule new Outdoor Ministry events at Templed Hills when it is safe to do so. Please watch for more information.
At the same time, the Heartland Conference Board of Directors, Camp Directors and staff are extremely excited about all the new opportunities Camp 2.0 will provide. We believe this is a way we can bring even more people socially, emotionally, and spiritually together with each other and with God in this time of physical distancing.
For this reason, the Heartland Conference Board of Directors has decided that we will be offering Summer Camp 2020 2.0 as a fully funded mission project for this year. This means everyone can participate at no charge. We hope you will invite others to join us this year. Also, everyone who has already registered will receive a full refund.
Currently the Outdoor Ministry team is hard at work developing all the details of the Camp 2.0. Here is a sneak peek at what we are planning. Many of your familiar counselors and directors will be leading worship, morning watch, vespers, hands on activities you can do at home, camp cabin/family group discussion, and/or more! These activities will happen in a variety of ways, through a website, video links, zoom type classrooms, a mailed packet of activities that you can do at home, and/or more. Camp 2.0 will also provide opportunities within our traditional themed camp communities. We will be asking participants to register for Camp 2.0, so that we can send you links to the live and participatory activities and so that we can maintain privacy for these activities.
We anticipate that more details and registration information will be available by May 15th. Please plan on joining us and inviting a friend! We are so excited to connect and re-connect with you this summer at Camp 2020 2.0.
As a conference mission program, we are inviting all churches and individuals to donate as you are able to help support this unique opportunity in our life together. Should you wish to make a donation please click here or send a check to the conference office notating it is in support of Camp 2.0.
Thank you so much for your support and prayers for the exciting new mission of the Heartland Conference. See you at “Camp”.

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers (Updated June 8)
Question: How late can I register for Camp 2.0?
Answer: We recommend that you register as soon as possible so that directors and staff can appropriately plan for camp. We recommend that you register at least one week ahead of your camp session so that you get you “Camp-in-a-Box” prior to your camp session. You may register later; however, you may not get your box timely.
Question: Will my child be in front of the computer watching videos all day?
Answer: No. While every camp is different, here is the general plan. Everything is being created as fun and interactive camp activities. One-way videos will be available that you may choose to watch or not. There will also be two-way interactive activities scheduled at various times during the day. Campers will be encouraged to go outside and play or do different activities in between sessions.
Question: What if my child has a conflict with one of the sessions or I don’t want them to participate in them all?
Answer: Not a problem. Please participate as you are able. You can even choose to only do the Camp-in-a-box and do no on-line activities.
Question: Has Summer Camp 2020 been Cancelled?
Answer: No. Summer Camp will happen this summer in a new format and venue. It will not happen as a residential camp at Templed Hills due to the risks associated with COVID-19. However, camp will happen as Camp 2.0. It will be mostly virtual and online through videos and zoom calls. It will also include a component that is “camp in a box” that will be a kit of fun hands on activities that will be mailed to homes. See Camp 2.0 section below for more information.
Question: Will I get a refund, how much will I get, and what do I need to do to get it?
Answer: Yes. Heartland Conference UCC will be refunding 100% of fees paid so far for Summer Camp 2020. You do not need to do anything to receive a refund. It will automatically be refunded in the same way it was paid originally. For example, if you paid by credit card, you same credit card will receive a credit in the amount that you paid. It will take 3-6 weeks to process all of the refunds. If you paid by check, please allow extra time for the funds to make their way back to you. If a church made the payment, the funds will be returned to them. We will send an email out when all participants have had their refunds processed so that you can double check.
Question: I ordered a T-shirt. Will I still get it?
Answer: No. All money was returned. Please reorder on our on-line store open until May 29th to get a camp shirt. The original t-shirt design is there as well as a new Camp 2.0 design. You may also choose from short and long sleeved t-shirts, hoodie and crew sweatshirts, tank tops, and mugs! Click here to go to our on line store.
Question: What is the fee to participate in Camp 2.0?
Answer: $0 The Heartland Conference is offering this as a mission so that everyone can participate. In this difficult time, we feel that everyone needs more connections. Please register and invite your friends.
Question: Does Camp 2.0 have associated costs? How can I help support that mission?
Answer: Yes! There are many costs associated with Camp 2.0. Including background checks for volunteers, website creation, licensing, supplies, postage, and more. We will also have expenses at Templed Hills, with no income. Please give generously as you are able, to help this new ministry and to keep Templed Hills strong. Click here for the donation page.
Question: Do I need to register for Camp 2.0?
Answer: yes! Registrations should be up by May 15th. You will register the same way as you normally do for camp. And no Health Form!
Question: Will there just be one Camp 2.0 for everyone or will I get to enjoy my specialty camp and see my friends from there?
Answer: Yes and Yes. When you sign up for Camp 2.0 you will sign up for the session or sessions that you want to attend. For example: Choir Camp 2.0, Sports Camp 2.0 etc. When you register you will get an email giving you directions to connect to the main camp website and also the direct codes for the two-way activities, like zoom activities. Everyone will use the same website. We will all go “to Camp 2.0” at the same place online just like we all go to Templed Hills Camp, and sneak peek – the website will look like Templed Hills! Then you will choose your specialty camp to attend. And Bonus! You will be able to visit all the camps, even if you are not registered. You will be able to see their pre-recorded videos for worship, activities and more. You will only get information on live events if you register for that session. You are invited to register for as many camp sessions as you want and remember to bring a friend!
On Site activities:
Question: Will there be any on site activities?
Answer: Maybe. Currently camp is closed. When the local Health Department allows us to open, we will review what we can do within the restrictions. We are hoping to add program opportunities later that could involve families hiking at camp keeping 6ft distance from others and perhaps other things. We will not be scheduling any of these activities until we get the green light to open. We are hoping that day activities will be allowed before residential camping is opened. Stay tuned.
Question: Once you do start holding on site activities, what precautions will you take to protect participants from COVID-19?
Answer: We will follow all guidelines the government has in place. These may include reminders and recommendations of vital regular hygiene, physical distancing, and continuing to clean regularly with products CDC has approved to combat COVID-19.
Questions: What if I have more questions? When and how will I hear more?
Answer: Please contact Jill Frey, Executive Director of Outdoor Ministries at email@example.com or 1-800-282-0740 or 614-885-0722 ext., ext. 3. Also, watch your email, and Heartlanducc.org official website and Facebook pages. Registered campers will get direct email communication as needed.
Templed Hills Camp and Conference Center Site:
Question: What is happening at Templed Hills Camp and Conference Center now?
Answer: Currently camp is closed and locked up. Andy Lacefield, Site Director, is working hard cleaning everything with products CDC approved to combat Covid-19. He is also continuing to work on the daily maintenance of the facilities and grounds so it will be in top shape when we are able to return.
Question: My church group has scheduled and event at Templed Hills Camp and Conference Center and we are not sure if we will still be able to come. Will we lose money? What should we do?
Answer: No. Call UCCR, 800-678-5102. United Camps and Conference Center will work with you during this difficult time. Ideally, we would prefer to reschedule your event for another date or transfer your money to another event you already have planned.
