My Dear Church,
Spring has sprung, summer has moved in, and in the church we have moved from Easter, to Ascension to Pentecost. “A rush of a mighty wind” has blow in, and the church has been filled with the Spirit, the ruach, the pneuma. We gather in this time after Pentecost, Common time, where the stories continue to teach us about God’s grace and love, where the Spirit challenges us and calls us to be accountable and transparent.
The Spirit indeed moved in the Board of Directors meeting on May 19. Your elected Board of Directors work hard, together with the Associations, to be the wider church in Ohio, West Virginia and northern Kentucky. There are challenges and decisions to be made. Each board member takes seriously their work done on your behalf.
Two important, spirit-filled ministries include: Outdoor Ministries and Faith formation. The Board has approved the creation of a Faith Formation Team that will be charged to look at all ways that faith can form for all ages, not just through outdoor ministries, but through life-long faith formation that happens anytime, anywhere.
Our German partnership helps youth, young adults and partner churches to build relationships with German churches in the Westphalia area. A German young adult counselor, Deena Engler, will join us this summer for church camp. Isn’t building relationships what we are called to be about by the Spirit? Our second group of young ambassadors will travel to Una, Germany, in July with Rev. Bob Tussing, pastor of Dublin Community UCC, as the leader.
The Business plan and the Operations teams for Temped Hills Camp continue to work hard to get ready to move over to Templed Hills by the end of the year. I hope you will join in this summer, as well as on October 7, when we decommission Pilgrim Hills.
Spring to summer, Easter to Ascension to Pentecost. May we be transparent in the Spirit that lives and works with and through us.
Rev. Melinda Quellhorst
Pastor of Grace UCC
