Four Opportunities to Strengthen Your Life and the Life of the World
As we anticipate the celebration of Thanksgiving, I have been thinking about how thankful I am for the collaborative connections that our shared life makes possible to strengthen not only our own lives but the also the life of the world. There many dimensions to this work of being a catalyst of connection. This month there are four specific opportunities I want to highlight in hopes that they may provide encouragement for your journey personally or in the life of your congregation.
“Learn It!” – The Second Annual Faith Formation Conference – February 28-29
Building on the inaugural Faith Formation Conference which introduced the “Learn It, Live It, Share It!” faith formation model, this year’s conference will feature the Rev. Dr. David Greenhaw, President of Eden Theological Seminary, as he engages participants in the “Learn It” portion of the model. This conference is intended for anyone who is interested in a deepened practice of faith learning, especially where scripture is concerned, across a myriad of contexts. This year’s event will be held at Westerville Community United Church of Christ. Save the date! Registration information will be coming soon!
Caring for Our Common Ground – Now What? Climate Care Action Next Steps
Following up on the theme of our Conference Annual Gathering, “Caring for Our Common Ground: Loving Creation”, the question has been asked, “Now what?” How can individuals and congregations act to make a tangible difference in the life of the planet? Certainly, there are many things that can be done. One that I would recommend is for your congregation to consider becoming a Creation Justice Church. The UCC’s Minister for Environmental Justice, Rev. Brooks Berndt, has developed a wonderful array of concrete suggestions to move from awareness to action which can be found by clicking here. One of those is to consider becoming a Creation Justice Church. You can find out more information about that by clicking here. I am very interested in how people with passion about creation justice could be connected across the life of the Heartland Conference for mutual encouragement and learning. If you have interest in this, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
An Opportunity to Strengthen the Life of the World…
It is no secret that what happens in one part of the world reverberates through the rest of the world. This past Easter Sunday we learned of the tragic bombing of a Christian Church in Sri Lanka. Did you know that some of our oldest partnerships are with the church in Sri Lanka? Do you know where Sri Lanka is? Our shared partnership of presence and encouragement matters as our faith is mutually strengthened by engagements with Christians from other cultural contexts. Over the next 18 months, Common Global Ministries will be encouraging our shared engagement through the Southern Asia Initiative. More information about this initiative can be learned by clicking here. You will find resources to encourage your personal and congregational engagement through Bible study, resources to learn about this region of the world and also opportunities for travel.
