Twelve young people from around Ohio replenished buffet trays, filled drinks and bussed tables to raise money to send their group on a life-changing experience in Germany this summer. First UCC, Sugarcreek hosted this event to support one of the Ohio Conference’s new Young Ambassadors Ohio programs. In all $800 was raised during this event alone.
The Ohio Conference has two groups of high-school-aged Young Ambassadors engaging in a two-year exchange with our German partners. This summer, this group will embark on a three-week trip to Paderborn, Germany to participate in racial dialogues that affect the German culture. Another group will serve as hosts to their new German friends, introducing them to local churches and taking educational trips to such places as the Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati.
During this latest event, youth invited donors to “Tag the Bag” — giving people the opportunity to give money in exchange for the opportunity to sign a suitcase that they will take along on the trip. “The Wall of Money” was a display of colorful envelopes that included a dollar amount on them, where participants could choose an envelope and donate the amount listed.
All of the Young Ambassadors are working hard to pay for this wider church experience that will help them become instruments of peace and understanding in a conflicted world.
The next fundraising dinner will be Saturday, February 20 at Congregational UCC in Canton. We invite anyone who is able to come meet our youth and learn more about how you can be the catalyst that opens the eyes of our youth to a broader vision of justice in the world.
You can also give directly to Young Ambassadors through our Ohio Conference online donation page or send a check to the Conference office, 6161 Busch Blvd. Ste. 100, Columbus, Ohio 43229. Please note that the donation should be directed to the Young Ambassadors program.
