Here is a link to explore: http://www.ucc.org/ucc_constitution_and_bylaws
It leads to the Constitution and by-laws of the United Church of Christ. Delegates and authorized ministers will vote to approve – or not – changes to the Constitution of the denomination.
The vote will be requested at the Ohio Conference Annual Gathering September 28-29, 2018. Here’s the process.
General Synod has already approved a series of by-law amendments. They do not need to be ratified by Conferences. Parts of the Constitution itself need to be amended to complement and make official the changes in the by-laws.
Changes to the Constitution must be ratified by two thirds of the Conferences of the United Church of Christ in order to become official.
Our turn to take that action comes at the 2018 Annual Gathering. We will be voting only on the Constitution amendments.
Congregations are encouraged to review the by-law changes which are found at that same link, and become familiar with the proposed amendments to the Constitution itself so that whoever attends the Annual Gathering as a voting delegate will have the necessary information.
The documents are also posted on the Annual Gathering section of our website (located HERE on the right side of the screen). Please help delegates from your congregation prepare for this significant vote in September.
Shalom
John Gantt
Interim Conference Minister
